Shingles are a reactivation of the chickenpox virus in the body, causing a painful rash. Anyone who's had chickenpox may develop shingles. It isn't known what reactivates the virus. Shingles cause a painful rash that may appear as a stripe of blisters on the trunk of the body. Pain can persist even after the rash is gone (this is called postherpetic neuralgia).


The Study

  • Doctors at Clinical Research Associates of Tidewater are accepting participants for an Investigational Shingles Vaccine Clinical Research Study. If you between the ages of 50 to 70 and have not had shingles then you may be eligible to participate. The study will last for approximately 14 months with a total of 5 office visits, 3 telephone calls, and 2 vaccinations. Common side effects that can occur, such as redness, a fever or bruising, are to be noted via a daily diary. 


Qualified Participants:

  • Between the ages of 50 to 70
  • Has not had shingles
  • No insurance needed


If Qualified and you participate you will receive:

  • Qualified participants will receive all study-related medical exams, lab tests, and investigational medications at no cost, and compensation is available for your time and travel.
